Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

My computer was running slow. I decided to tend to it and found a software program designed to speed it up with some maintenance. It was recommended on a shareware site Torrence. Cost about 30-40 usd. I downloaded it and was in touch with a tech by phone as the price included an inspection. This person claimed to be shocked at the 'about to turn into a serious threat' situation in my computer

I fell for it when he told me he could only fix so much and it was dangerous to not get a more serious treatment. He specifically told me NOT to go to a place such as Best Buy Geek Squad as they charge too much. He recommended an alternate tech support company. There was something about the term he used that gave me an impression they were somehow affiliated with Microsoft...or at least that thought was planted by his use of language. In my panic I fell for it and soon had paid $169.99 to Superior Tech Help for a one time fix. they tried to sell me a years worth of monthly fixes for another $130 but I passed on that.

They asked for and were granted my permission for remote access. We remained on phone contact during the time spent on the 'fix' - hours (it seemed). They claimed to find thousands of horrendous problems! I fell for that too and allowed the guy to run all kinds of programs to 'fix' it. Afterwards in their system, they put a supervisor on the phone to confirm that your problem was 'fixed'. A few hours later I started to get all kinds of pop-ups I'd never gotten before and pages were getting hijacked (ie instead of Google opening up it redirected to adds, other search engines I'd never heard of...etc. A mess!

I called again. Another bunch of hours on the phone By the end of this phone call it was obvious to me that it was not getting better at all. I was tired and told the guy I was getting off the phone. He kept me on the phone until I'd say the problem was solved. I definitely felt pressured to say those words. Finally I thought it was the ony way I'd get him to end the session. After the second call my computer was really a mess! The pop-ps are non-stop I can't get to any of my pages withour getting highjacked along the way. Here are some of the names that come up in the highjackings: Sweetpacks, instead of google some page that kind of resembles Google comes up but with no identifying names on it...subtle. Then the adds start flooding everywhere. They especially love flashing lights. Tehre's one that resembles facebook private message indicator only it's flashing and in the wrong location. It connects to a zillion adds if you click on it.

Now I'll take my computer in to the Geek Squad and pay them to undue the damage these guys have done and hope I don't have an identity theft problem related to their remote access to my computer. Watch out for this scam!!!

By the way, the techs were soo nice...extremely polite. My guess is they are a real registered company but they use the pretense of tech support to flood people with adds, apyware and who knows what they do with content they can access on your computer. After the tech finished, they connect you to a supervisor who confirms that your problem was solved and asks you to rate the Tech. They get you to use the language to cover their asses. After hours on tech support a person will say anything of course just to finish it ...all very polite and professional sounding. That had me giving them high reviews and thanking them. It was later when the adds broke through the spell that I awoke to what had happened. I did a little research and found reports like the one on this site. I called my bank and arranged to begin an investigation when the charge cleared. then I called them and informed them of my intention. They agreed to cancel the charge. I'm concerned about identiy theft issues of course and will be watching.
