I seem to be reading alot about Unifund and lawyers from Sessoms and Rogers over the internet. And now, I seem to be one of their latest victims.

In December out of nowhere I received court papers over an old credit card debt. I pulled all my credit reports and found an account opened over twenty years ago which they seem to be going after. All credit reports had claims from Unifund for approx. $10,000. I disputed the claim as fraud and eventually they were removed from my credit. I also sent a Debt Verification Letter to Sessoms and Rogers and received no reply, until a few days ago a civil court summons appeared in my mailbox.

If anyone has had luck dealing with these people, I look forward to any information or help you can offer.

Court Papers in the Mailbox?

#2Consumer Comment

If you received civil court papers in the mail, rather than personally handed to you by a process server, I'm not sure that is proper service. If a lawsuit has in fact been filed, you should file a Motion to Dismiss for lack of proper service. Unless your state has some strange rule that lets people get served with a summons by mail, which I seriously doubt, then you should have no problem getting it dismissed.
