Last Thursday, I purchased a $1 Hot Chocolate from a vending machine at my local 24 Hour Fitness.
USA Technologies, who owns and operates point of sale machines for credit and debit cards such as ePort uses the standard banking practice of authorizing and holding a certain amount on your card until the bank approves the transaction.
Just checked my bank account and there are TWO $39 chargers for a $1 Hot Chocolate. One is for an authorization and the other for the purchase!!!!! Tried calling their customer service hotline and of course fully automated - no chance of speaking to a live person.
So right now - I am paying $80 for a drink. They say it takes up to 72 hours for the funds to release!!!! To bad if I need to use that money this weekend.
What a rip off. There are no signs or postings on the machines stating that such a ridiculous amount will be held - if so there is no way that I would have used the service. I would head straight to my local Coffee Bean!!!!
Unbelievable!!!!
