I am looking for other people who have been physically assaulted, unreasonably siezed, and discriminated against by Worlds of Fun and/or Oceans of Fun Security Personnel.

I witnessed those events and then two weeks later I was victim of such events.

On the weekend of Sept 15th, I witnessed two African-American families being mistreated by a teenage Worlds of Fun employee at the Octopus attraction. Security was called as the guest asked the employee to apologize for the mistreatment. When security arrived, they provoked the guests into a confrontation by getting up in the face of the guests and pushing their chests into the guest. The guests kept telling the guards (quote), "Stop pushing me. Keep your hands off of me!" I witnessed the women and men in that family take the physical provocation for about 2 to 3 minutes and then they began to yell at the security guards get to them stop. At which point the guards, now about 10 in number, told them they were under arrest. They handcuffed the two men, as their children and spouses cried. They did not read them their Miranda rights as they cuffed them and led them away. One mother tried to ask the guards not to take her spouse. They promptly threw her to the ground and roughly cuffed her.

My children and I have had season passports with Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun for at leat four years and have witnessed white guests display similar actions and not be arrested or removed from the park. I was disgusted with the event and shared with my girlfriend that i was suprised at how agressive the security guards acted with those guests. Those children will definitely be scarred for life.

Little did i know that i would fall victim to that same abuse from the security guards of worlds of fun within a few weeks of the aforementioned tragedy. I had allowed a friend's son to use my son's passport. It was confiscated and destroyed at the front gate. We began walking to the front gate and were nearly to the parking lot when a security guard ran up to me and began telling me to stop. I told him, "You guys already took my son's passport and destroyed it, what else do you want." I was physically assualted by the guard as he kept pushing his chest into me trying to provoke me into a fight. I told him i was reaching into my bag to get my phone and call the police. As I responded that I had not touched him and he should stop touching me...he called for back up using a code "93" (I believe that was the code). Then he cuffed me and told me I was under arrest. He never read me the "Miranda rights", although his supervisor insisted he was a police officer as he interogated me and used the statements he elicted for his report. During the interogation there were approximately 10 to 12 people randomly coming in and asking what happened. One thin guard, with short brown hair in his early twenties said (quote), "If you'd have reached into your bag and I was the officer there...you'd be on the ground in a world of hurt! I don't care what you said you were doing."

They coerced a false statement from my friend and told her she would be released if she cooperated. They then came back and told me i would be charged for attempted theft of three admissions. Although only one passport was presented at the gate, they confiscated all five passports which I purchased. The supervisor of security, if not a certified police officer in Kansas City Missouri made a false statement to me. As I told him I was wanting to call the KCMO Police...he stated (quote), "I am the police, so what do you want to say to me!!!" I told him i was sorry and i now knew what i did was wrong. One of the officers completing the police report said, "Most of the people that get caught doing this we let go." He didn't elaborate on why i was being charged, while others were let go. But after my reflection of what happened to the African-American families two weeks earlier, and the fact that I am a hispanic male that was with a white woman...it became clear why I was not forgiven.

I am looking for other people who have been experienced such acts by Worlds of Fun and would like to be part of a class action lawsuit against them. If interested please contact me by responding to me.

I had almost the same experience here and I was wondering if you ever got the chance to go back? I am not sure if you would even want to, but if you happened to go back or if anybody you know that was involved went back did they let them in without a hassle?

I will not include any personal information or even any past experiences, due to being confidential information. All I have to say is that there is probably more to the story than you realize. The rangers are trained for months on how to handle situations like the ones you described. With the beginning group, they could have been reported previously that day and the rangers had to handle it that way. There could have been comments that you didn't hear that caused it to escalate that way. As for your own situation, would you have done that in the presence of a police officer? Automatically went into your bag to grab something? I don't believe so. Also, you got caught doing something you weren't supposed to be doing. It would be just like using someone else's driver's license to get into a bar, or someone else's handicap sticker. It's illegal. You got caught and you wanted to just get out. They have to talk to you about things like that, just like police officers have to talk to you when you get caught using someone else's identification. You can't just walk away and expect nothing to happen when you try to scam the system. I understand you paid for that passport, but you paid for it to be used by your son, not by the friend. They probably confiscated the rest of them to keep you from trying it again. The best way to keep the situation from escalating.. answer the questions they ask you. As for the miranda rights... the rangers are only commissioned for any arrests made on property. They aren't actually booking you. They are just holding you until the police officers show up, which means they are not required to read you your Miranda Rights. I highly doubt they were discriminating. I've seen them do the same to a group of white people trying to get away with the same thing. Sometimes they go easier on people that cooperate, which may be why the ranger made that comment. Also, when you say you want to talk to the police, they have to call the Police station and request a wagon, which could take as long as 18 hours, depending on how busy the Police are that day. Advice for the future, cooperate and they won't have to result to that kind of tactic.

When going to an amusement park no one expects to get in trouble or even come across any problems, its a family park. But for those who do come across the issues of what some think is wrong, i say to them open up the worlds of fun map and in the back it states the park policy's alot of people dont pay attention to it. For instance it is against the law to consume alcohol and ride the any of the rides its a city ordinance and the state law it's called "The Riders Safety Act". Then arise another question without having any authority in the park how would it be? You think KCPD is going to drive all the way out to worlds of fun to handle calls i think not. They have better calls to deal with than an anger guest about an employee or a irresponsible parent losing there child, further more even misrepresentation of identification. The Park Rangers are commissioned by the board of police commissioners of Kansas City. They are the police on that property it states that on the commission card and its also written down in a city ordinance. When a park ranger arrives at a call its not what you see, there are more facts then what the eye will see. You could see a 15 second clip of a police officer doing his job and the eye of a civilian will portray it to be wrong thats how it works when you see something and make it seem wrong. Park Rangers have a responsibility to uphold the peace in the park, even when its twenty thousand guests and half of them have consumed alcohol try handling an intoxicated guest. I have seen and dealt with many things but when people say Park Rangers assualted me or handled it wrong, or reach in there bag to grab a "cell phone" how would you portray that? Maybe a gun or a knife, Park Rangers do not know everyone in that park or know if they're a really a nice person and just there to have fun or even if they truly are a criminal. Park Rangers are not mind readers yet guests still believe that they are. No one can be trusted, I laugh when I hear they assualted me because yes i have been, handled, and seen calls in my own eyes. People will do anything to attract attention to themselves get the attention that they crave so much because they know they were in the wrong. It is confindential for me to talk about any situation that has happened all i know is, it was resolved in court. Another issue Worlds of Fun doesnt lose money when The Park Rangers make ask or make guests leave, they gross more after they leave due to the fact that it is a better and safer place to be now since unwanted guests have left. I end it with this, Park Rangers do there job for the guests to enjoy there day at the park, to have fun not harm nor scare guests away. They make it a better amusement park. If you dont like it then go to six flags they have security there to or any other amusment park.

This sounds kind of fishy to me. You were, as you stated, basically stealing. You used your sons passports to get someone else in with out paying. Im guessing after you got caught you probably didn't just agree and walk away quietly. You were angry, may have made a seen, walked away mad then at some point when the officer or security guard was around you reached in your purse. It could be the officer/security guards job was to make sure you are off the premises. Some one who is a trained officer, or just a security guard is supposed to see someone reaching into their purse as a threat, because everyone isn't honest, you could have been lieing and grabbing some sort of weapon. What little bit they did know about you is that you had lied just moments before, and now you are angry and NOW you are really being honest. You may have really been getting out your cell, I'm not saying they were perfect angles either, but something seems a little off, there must be two side to this story.
