Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I was looking to sell my car and was doing research on Kelley blue book for an instant offer. Ray Chevrolet in fox lake happens to be the dealer in my area that KBB works with. Within 30 seconds of me submitting the info on KBB and getting my 3 day guarantee pricing, someone from the dealer calls me. I set up an appointment for 2 days later figuring it's within my 3 day guarantee pricing. The same person that called me also sent me an email stating that because they are in partnership with kbb that they can offer me $500-$2500 more than my guaranteed pricing. So I drive the 30-40 minutes in the middle of the day (basically not being able to plan anything for that day), and go to the dealership.

The person doing the intake tells me my car is in great condition just like its brand new except the tires are a little less than 50%. He comes back with a price that's $1500 LESS!!! What happened to my guaranteed pricing? What happened to the $500-2500 more than that price? When I got home I reran the KBB and the price dropped. The dealership that's in a partnership with KBB and can offer more than the 3 day guaranteed price will not only not give more than the guaranteed price but won't even consider the guaranteed price!!! I emailed the lady I had talked to on the phone and sent me the email.

She told me she's not sure what happened but she can look into it and get back to me as far as why the offer was less. 2 of the managers emailed me saying if there's anything we can do for you please let me know. I emailed both of them back asking why?? NO ONE has responded back. I sent a couple more emails to the lady following up and nothing. A week later there is NOTHING!!! Is this really how you want to do business? Conning people to come in, not holding up to a guaranteed pricing from someone you're in partnership with, then completely ignoring that person? I get the dealer has no obligation to purchase my car but then say sorry we aren't interested in it. Don't give people the run around.

#2Consumer Comment

Fri, August 26, 2016

To anyone who has read anything of mine or heard me speak about consumer affairs matters, then a couple of things come banging thru loud and clear.  I cannot stand crying, whining or wailing deadbeats who make up excuses to pay their bills or blame the merchant...and...people who fail to use the common sense of being a SMART CONSUMER!  Every once in a while, someone comes here to post an experience about a potential ripoff and then ends their posting by showing all of us exactly how to handle such things as you have!  You did not reward them for playing games with you with the price!  They play these games because they know the average person will very gladly volunteer to be the doormat, sucker or chump and go along with their scheme, hat-in-hand.

BUT NOT YOU!!!

You displayed and practiced what all comes down to being a SMART CONSUMER!  You walked away from the deal!  How YOU handled this situation is an example for EVERYONE to follow.  You did exactly the RIGHT THING.  You walked away!  Your example shows everyone how easy it is to be a smart consumer but not only that, gives us hope there's still a few of us out there who have the common sense which is required!  Now I urge you to spread the word to encourage others how you handled this!
